Social media has fanned the flame of sensationalism in news media.
- This medium is used by some media houses to arouse the interest of those who use social media, such as blogs, instant messaging, micro-blogs and social networks.
- However, in most cases, with unofficial news carriers – those not operating under an established news corporation or company - the news may be distorted by skewing the information or by exaggerating news that is presented to the public.
- Therefore, it is through this medium that most propaganda and exaggerated information is passed on, as participants try to “spice”
